Lake Klopein
With temperatures up to 28 degrees Celsius, Lake Klopein is one of the warmest swimming lakes in Europe! It attracts water sports enthusiasts, swimmers and fun seekers. There are 12 public areas around the lake with plenty of activities that are also family friendly. With the only continuous circular promenade around a lake in Austria, it invites you to take a stroll and soak up the atmosphere. This leisurely, family-friendly walk of 5.3 kilometres has many attractions, from the opportunity to shop family-owned shops to enjoying a quieter and more natural surroundings.
Hiking
Hiking in this part of Southern Carinthia is a beautiful way to experience the soul soothing nature, keep the body fit and find serenity! There are more than 180 kilometres of nature and mountain trails around. They will lead you from 440 to 2,139 metres above sea level and expose astonishing views. The nearby hiking routes are also suitable for children thus allowing families to enjoy the surroundings together.

Hemmaberg & Rosaliengrotte
This is a 0.7-mile loop trail near Globasnitz, Carinthia. At the foot of the Hemmaberg you can visit the castle of Elberstein and the Archaeological Museum. On the mountain you will find the St. Rosalia grotto, a spring of healing water, a 1000 year old lime tree and Celtic and Romanesque excavations.
For thousands of years, people have made pilgrimages to St. Rosalia Grotto and is supposed to have the energy fields similar to those in a well-known pilgrimage town of Lourdes in France.
Petzen
Mount Petzen has hiking areas with peaks over 2000m, mountain railway, circular hiking trails, view over the whole of southern Carinthia to the Großglockner and the Hohe Tauern. The viewpoint Siebenhütten at an altitude of 1.700 m is easy to reach by cable car. Saualpe and Koralpe.
For mount-bikers, you will find here the longest downhill mountain bike stretch in Europe – the Flow Country Trail, which is over 10 km long.
Obir stalactite caves
The Obir stalactite caves are located in one of the most scenic regions of Carinthia: The fascination of the Obir Dripstone Caves comes from the incomparable mix of nature and man, from the symbiosis of 200 million years of history. The caves are located at 1078 m above sea level and offer a magnificent panoramic view.
The caves were discovered in 1870, when miners started to search for lead and zinc. The living stalactites in the caves are a rarity in Europe.
Hochosterwitz Castle
A landmark of Carinthia – is one of the most famous castles in Austria and one of the most important cultural monuments in Europe. The fortification of the castle with 14 castle gates is unique and displays a collection of pictures from the Renaissance period. Its church was first mentioned in 926 and was rebuilt it in 1586. Benedictine Abbey of St. Paul
Once the ancestral home of the Carinthian dukes, the abbey is now one of the cultural and spiritual centers of the country. In addition to a basilica worth seeing, the monastery has an important art and treasure collection. In 1091 Benedictine monks from the famous monastery of Hirsau settled here. The former reception halls of the monastery are today used as the monastery museum which belongs to the most valuable private collections in Austria. For more information, please click here.
The Old Town of Klagenfurt
Get to know the beautiful capital of Carinthia. Shaped by Italian architects, Klagenfurt is also called the “Renaissance Gem”. The 800-year-old town features palaces, courtyards and squares.
